Understanding Job Costing & Financial Statements (2 credit)
Speaker: Jesse Buhl, MedCity Consulting, Inc.
This course consists of analyzing reports for internal use in the company's manage decision-making process. This course contains a study of cash flow and managerial accounting principles including cost behavior, job order costing, budgets, break-even, and differential analysis. Managerial accounting emphasizes accounting concepts required in the strategic decision-making process.

New Minnesota Wage Law (1 credit)

The legislature recently made significant amendments to the Minnesota wage laws. Perhaps the change that has gotten the most press is the increase in criminal penalties for wage theft. The new law increases criminal penalties for wage theft to a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of $100,000. However, in addition to other changes, the amendments include a significant number of changes to payment, recordkeeping, and notice requirements to new employees and to existing employees who have their wage rates or calculations changed. In this presentation we will review the major changes and how employers may react to them.

Mechanics Lien Rights; Construction Contracts (1 credit)

This course will provide legal and practical understanding of the mechanic's lien law and process. Participants will also learn about contractor licensing and contract requirements and recommendations.

Environmental Considerations to Minimize Risk (2 credits)
Speaker: Peter Moore, WSB
It makes good business sense to mitigate environmental risks during the building/development process. This class will discuss some of the strategies to identify and mitigate those risks.  Topics include soils and bedrock, grading, septic systems, water intrusion, vapor intrusion, mold, and asbestos. 

Building for the Future (1 credit * Energy)
Speaker: Megan Gallagher, XRG Concepts, LLC
In a rapidly changing environment, the building industry will need to adapt for more severe weather events and build for resiliency. A major shift in the energy grid will also force builders to consider the implications of a grid dominated by renewable energy. The demand for healthy, resilient, and energy-efficient buildings is on the horizon.
