SUMMARY:Continuing Education Seminar 2/9/23
DESCRIPTION:Employment Law Update (1 hr\, Business Management credit)\n\nSpeaker: Gregory Griffiths\, Dunlap & Seeger\n\n	Wage & Hour Update\n	Independent Contractor v. Employee\n	Maintaining a Respectful Workplace\n	Legal Cannabis and the Workplace\n\n\n\n \n\nRemodeling Under the MN Residential Code & Navigating the Permit Process (6 hrs\, includes Energy credit)\n\nSpeaker: Greg Karow\, Code Educational Opportunities\n\n \n\nRemodeling contractors are faced with unique challenges in the construction industry. The current MN residential code does not have any parameters with specific requirements for remodeling. There has been a fundamental question of "where do we start and where do we stop" when it comes to code application.\n\n \n\nThis class will contain the words "purpose and intent" to focus on an end result that is equivalent to the code fire\, life and structural safety. The approach used will be scenario based and will analyze various situations that arise from foundation to roof. These scenarios are but a small portion of situations that have come up over the years. With that\, the audience is encouraged to bring other situations to light with attendees providing additional perspectives to find viable solutions for compliance. The 2020 MN residential code will be used as the reference document for finding reasonable solutions.\n\n\n\nPermits of all types are part of the construction industry. This offering will in great detail cover the process for obtaining a building permit in accordance with MN rule 1300. This will include but not limited to the responsibilities from the contractor as well as the municipality. Attendees will examine a permit application and use proper methodology for filling out the application for approval by the municipality. Requirements for submittal documents including plans will be analyzed for content and applicability to meet the minimums for permit approval.\n\n\n\n\n\n**This 7 hour class has been approved by the MN Department of Labor & Industry for continuing education for residential building contractors\, remodelers\, roofers and building officials\, which includes the required 1 hour of energy and 1 hr of business management.\n\n\n\nLunch provided by our host sponsor\, Haley Comfort Systems.\n\n\n\nSeating is limited.
